The presidential candidate for the Citizen Revolution party in Ecuador, Luisa González, launched her ambitious Plan Protege on Tuesday, an initiative aimed at addressing the growing insecurity affecting the country. The presentation took place in the coastal city of Esmeraldas and aims to offer a comprehensive approach to restoring peace and security in Ecuador.
During the event, González emphasized that her proposal is not a “declaration of war,” but a call for peace through strong leadership and strategic planning. “Our goal with Protege is to restore peace, ensure security, and rebuild a strong and united Ecuador. Security is not improvised; it is built with timetables, budgets, and actions in the short, medium, and long term,” said the candidate.
The Plan Protege is structured into six axes of action, including: full deployment of police and armed forces to patrol neighborhoods; strengthening borders; transforming prisons from being “crime offices”; home security as the basis for a decent life; protection of children and youth; and institutionalism as the fundamental pillar of democracy.
González stressed that this initiative is primarily aimed at protecting the most vulnerable and creating opportunities to contribute to poverty reduction. “The Plan Protege is evidence of the commitment of Citizen Revolution to return hope to Ecuador,” she said.
The plan is being presented in an alarming context: according to statistics from Latinobarómetro, Ecuador was considered the safest country in the region in 2015 but currently occupies one of the top positions in violence.
The Plan Protege is positioned as a direct response to citizens’ concerns, who demand effective solutions to deal with the growing wave of violence and crime that has marked the national scene in recent years. González’s initiative seeks not only to restore security but also to foster a sense of community and social cohesion in a country that yearns to regain stability.
