The Workers’ Party (PT) in Brazil demands this Friday the Supreme Federal Court to investigate possible foreign interference in the upcoming elections, citing political, economic, and digital pressures.

The Brazilian Workers’ Party (PT) has formally requested the Supreme Federal Court to investigate potential foreign interference in the upcoming elections scheduled for October 4.

The party’s demand comes amid growing concerns over political, economic, and digital pressures that could influence the electoral process, alleging that these pressures are aimed at favoring the candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently detained for his involvement in a failed coup attempt in 2022 and under investigation for corruption charges.

The leftist party’s request was addressed to Minister Flávio Dino of the Supreme Federal Court, highlighting the need to protect the electoral process from external influences. The Workers’ Party cited several indicators of foreign interference, including sanctions against Brazilian authorities, tariffs imposed by United States, and actions designed to discredit the electoral system. Additionally, the party pointed to potential illegal campaign financing linked to the U.S.-based Rockbridge Network.

In a related development, the party’s National Secretary of Communication, Éden Valadares, reported on September 25 that the Facebook page of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was disabled, and his advertising account was restricted. This incident has led them to consider taking legal action against Meta, the company of Facebook, alleging partial behavior that disadvantages one campaign over others.

A confidential report from the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (ABIN), titled “Threats to the Electoral Process 2026,” warns of potential U.S. intervention in the upcoming elections. The report, revealed by journalist Mônica Bergamo, suggests that Washington could exert pressure to realign Brazil’s political and economic vision, potentially straining relations with China and causing commercial tensions. The document also warns of possible demands for guarantees regarding the participation of political dissidents, in a context marked by previous sanctions and the classification of Brazilian criminal organizations as terrorist groups.

The Brazilian government, under President Lula, has responded by activating mechanisms of commercial reciprocity. Lula da Silva inaugurated the General Debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly on September 22, where he emphasized that the October 4 elections will determine the future between democracy and regression, condemning campaigns of disinformation and external interference.

The electoral contest pits Lula da Silva against Flávio Bolsonaro, who is running despite his father’s legal troubles. The Workers’ Party (PT)’s call for an investigation underscores its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process, free from external manipulation.
