President Maduro recalled the devastating impact that the more than 30 economic sanctions imposed on Venezuela between 2018 and 2019 had on the national economy, causing a drastic drop in GDP of 30% and an annualized inflation rate that reached astronomical figures of 344,000 percent.

Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, has reaffirmed his optimism regarding the country’s economic growth, assuring that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at the end of 2024 will exceed 9%.

During his speech at the closing of the 25th World Forum on the Development of Special Economic Zones, held in Caracas, the president highlighted the progress made in recovering the nation’s productive engines in both the public and private sectors.

President Maduro recalled the devastating impact that the more than 30 economic sanctions imposed on Venezuela between 2018 and 2019 had on the national economy, causing a drastic drop in GDP of 30% and an annualized inflation rate that reached astronomical figures of 344,000 percent.

In this context, the president emphasized that despite adversity, the country did not give up and managed to activate 18 economic engines, which have allowed for significant advances toward self-sufficiency.

The head of state stressed the importance of having designed “an integral economic, social, political, and moral agenda” that has been key to facing difficulties and preventing Venezuela from becoming a colony.

In particular, he referred to the transformation of the agro-food sector, noting that import dependence, which reached 85% for a century, has been overcome and that 100% supply is achieved through domestic production.

President Maduro concluded his speech by stating that Venezuela has become an example of resistance to international sanctions and blockades, highlighting the achievements made despite adversity. With these statements, the president underscores recovery and hope for the country’s economic future.
