“We have made the right decision. Soon we will begin the official process,” said the premier, in an interview with the Chinese news outlet Guancha.cn.

Following this line, bin Ibrahim indicated that, currently “they are waiting for the final decision and the response of the South African Government” and affirmed that the accession to the bloc of countries is an important strategy.

The Malaysian Government supports the decision that the Strait of Malacca represents an important transport route connecting the South East Pacific Ocean with the Bay of Bengal, where it has its coasts, including India, Bangladesh and Thailand.

After emphasizing that “the world today is not unipolar”, he indicated that the BRICS countries offer “a ray of hope for the control and balance of the world”.

“We can no longer accept a scenario in which the West wants to control the discourse; because the reality is that they are no longer colonial powers and independent countries must express themselves freely,” he insisted.

The Brics block originated with the formation of the countries that define its acronyms: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

However, as of January 1 of this year, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are part of the bloc.

Like Malaysia, Thailand has also expressed its intention to be part of this organization.
