Access to Bamako airport was reopened on Tuesday afternoon after the attack on the nearby building of the National College of the Gendarmerie, claimed by al-Qaeda, which says it has also attacked the military airport.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Transport, access to the President Modibo Keita Senou international airport in the Malian capital was restored at 1600 local time (GMT), after it had been closed in the morning.
The Malian Armed Forces reported that “a group of terrorists” attacked on Tuesday the Gendarmerie training centre near the airfield, without any data on the number of material and human damages.
It occurred at dawn and was claimed by the Group for Support of Islam and Muslims (GAIM), a branch of al-Qaeda in the Sahel, which refers not only to infiltration into that training centre but also to a second attack on the nearby military airport.
The terrorist group claims that there were “huge losses of lives and equipment, and the destruction of numerous fighter planes”.
