Two migrant caravans, “De la Esperanza” and “Movimiento por la Dignidad”, with about 2,500 people, left the southern border of Mexico for the capital on the eve of the counting of votes in the US elections.

The migrants, mainly from South America, the Caribbean and other countries, agree that the intention to make the exodus last Tuesday, on election day in the United States, He sought to pressure the governments of that country and Mexico to provide more flexible options for regularization and employment.

“Yes, we have scheduled it for that date so that the governments of Mexico and the United States pay attention to us because we are a working class that every day more want to fulfill a dream and a goal that is to arrive in the northern country with a legal migration plan and a job opportunity”, said another migrant.

Regarding the US migration policy, people in both caravans agree that, with Donald Trump winning, the situation of migrants may get worse. At the same time, they felt that they might have a better chance of succeeding Kamala Harris.

About 2,500 migrants set out from the Chiapas border to find employment while waiting for a CBP-One application appointment in the Mexican capital. Some say that they have not received a response to the migration call in the municipality of Tapachula for four months.

In the municipality of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, around 500 migrants left around 7:00 AM (local time) from the central park of this capital to join the caravan that left Tapachula in the municipality of Arriaga.
