Mexico’s Electoral Institute Begins Training Phase Prior to Judicial Elections

The National Electoral Institute (INE) of Mexico began this Sunday the first stage of training for the individuals selected to serve as polling officials in the electoral process on June 1.

From February 9 to March 31, the Supervisors and Electoral Assistant Trainers of the Institute will visit 13.9 million Mexicans selected by lottery on February 6, the electoral authority specified in a statement.
During this period, electoral personnel will travel the country to notify and prepare the citizens who will make up the polling places (voting tables) where voting will occur for half of the judges and magistrates of the Judiciary and for nine justices of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, in a historic event, as well as for local positions.
In this first phase, called sensitization, the aim is to train 12.94 million people for the voting tables for the extraordinary electoral process of the Judiciary, as well as 987,334 citizens for local electoral processes in the states of Durango and Veracruz.
In this regard, the INE urged the selected citizens to open the door to the trainers and receive the corresponding notification, in order to ensure the installation and operation of polling places on election day.
The officials will visit the selected citizens at their homes to verify if they meet the legal requirements, raise awareness about the importance of their participation, and explain the functions of the polling officials.
“The INE calls on the selected citizens to open the door, receive the notification, and agree to be trained, in order to have enough people to staff the polling places on the electoral day of June 1,” stated the INE in its note.
