The entity indicated that this Saturday there are 47 shelters open where 3,057 people are located, mostly in the provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas, both on the Pacific coast, have been the most affected by the indirect influence of tropical waves and tropical storms Rafael and Sara.

Alejandro Picado, president of the CNE said people must remain alert “as the soils are very saturated, which makes them very prone to landslides and flooding. It is of the utmost importance to remain vigilant and inform ourselves through official channels and obey the orders of emergency personnel.”

Last Wednesday, the Government of Costa Rica declared a national emergency in order to streamline processes for dealing with the emergency, the distribution of economic and human resources, contracts for reconstruction or road rehabilitation, among other issues.

This Saturday the red alert (maximum) for the provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas, both in the pacific coast, and orange (high) for the rest of the country are in force, with the exception of the province of Limón (Caribbean) where a yellow alert (intermediate) is in effect.

The CNE reported that the rainy pattern will remain this weekend due to the indirect influence of tropical storm Sara, which is located in northern Central America off the Caribbean coast of Honduras.
