In a statement issued by the Directorate-General for National Security (DGSN), it is reported that this young man was arrested in the rural community of Ourika, in the mountainous province of Al Haouz, which was severely affected by the earthquake almost a year ago that left nearly 3,000 dead.

Following the arrest, the officers seized electronic devices, a plastic bottle with a suspicious liquid substance and chemical dust, which will be analyzed.

The DGSN states that, according to the preliminary investigation, the detainee “was imbued with the principles of extremist IS thought and had declared his loyalty to the alleged emir of this terrorist organization”.

He had gained experience, the note says, in preparing explosives with the aim of attacking “sensitive places” in the country.

In addition, the young man had contacted people affiliated with IS to join its branch in the Sahel region after carrying out his terrorist actions in Morocco.

The statement states that their arrest is a result of collaboration with foreign intelligence services, but does not specify which country or countries. The young man is in police custody pending the judicial investigation to be opened against him under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.
