“We experienced one of the largest attempts to attack Moscow,” said Moscow’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, assuring that the situation is under control at this time.
The first drone headed toward Moscow was destroyed near the capital at 3:02 a.m. local time, and the other nine drones were eliminated within the following hour and a half. The falling debris from the downed drones caused no casualties or material damage.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported the elimination of 45 drones overnight. The previous attempt to attack Moscow with a drone occurred on July 11, when an unmanned aircraft was shot down in Stupino, nearly 100 kilometers south of the metropolis.
Previously, on the day of the Russian presidential elections, March 17, Moscow also suffered an attack by five drones, none of which reached their target.
On Wednesday, Russian troops liberated the town of Zhelanne in the Donetsk region, marking another achievement in their advance toward the logistical hub of Pokrovsk. According to the military, Ukrainian forces lost more than 630 soldiers in that area of the front.
The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the liberation of the town of New York in the Donetsk region as part of its renewed offensive in the Donbas. This week, Russia also reported the liberation of the town of Zalizne.
