The ‘Steadfast Noon’ military exercises involve eight air bases and thirteen allied countries.

“In the context of the ongoing war within the framework of the Ukrainian conflict, such exercises do nothing but further escalate tensions,” said Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a new doctrine that includes a nuclear response to a conventional attack, in reference to a possible Western authorization for Ukraine to use long-range missiles against targets in Russian territory.

Despite the risk of escalating the conflict in Europe, NATO has started the annual exercise “Steadfast Noon,” drills that will last two weeks but will not involve the use of live weapons.

This is a routine training exercise that takes place every October, and this year it will mainly involve flights over several Western European countries, according to NATO.

Specifically, personnel from eight air bases will participate, and thirteen allied countries will send various types of aircraft, including jets capable of carrying nuclear warheads, bombers, combat escorts, refueling planes, and aircraft capable of conducting reconnaissance and electronic warfare.

This year’s exercise includes flights primarily over the host countries Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as in the airspace of Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the North Sea.
