Nearly 300 Dead and up to 89 Missing After Floods in Myanmar

According to the official media report, more than 160,000 citizens are now refugees in 425 emergency camps set up to provide aid to those affected.
Myanmar’s military junta confirmed the tragic death toll of at least 293 and 89 missing persons due to severe flooding in the country since last week.

The military authorities have declared that nearly 169,000 houses have been submerged, further complicating the situation of many families who have lost everything in this catastrophe.
Although some central regions, such as Naipyidó, have begun to see a decline in water levels, attention is now focused on providing health care for victims, and cleaning up and restoring damaged infrastructure. Search and rescue teams continue their efforts in communities still affected by the floods.
The Department of Meteorology has issued warnings on the arrival of new heavy rainfall that could further affect the capital and other devastated areas, including Mandalay, Magway, and Shan, until next Wednesday. This alert increases tensions in a country already facing a social and humanitarian crisis aggravated by political instability.
Monsoon rains from the Bay of Bengal have intensified the existing crisis. The international community is watching with concern as Myanmar faces one of the most challenging moments in its recent history, accentuating the need for urgent and effective humanitarian support.
