Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared a ceasefire agreement with the Lebanese group Hezbollah, in an attempt to end more than a year of escalating tensions and nearly two months of military invasion in Lebanon.
During a press conference alongside his cabinet, Netanyahu confirmed that Israel is committed to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which entails a gradual withdrawal of its forces from the south of the “Blue Line” within a maximum of 60 days.
This agreement stipulates that Israel will not carry out further military actions against Lebanon, although Netanyahu reserved the right to respond if Hezbollah violates the agreed terms.
Among the motivations presented by the Israeli Prime Minister for this ceasefire are the need to concentrate efforts on the Iranian threat, facilitate the resupply of his troops, and disconnect conflict fronts, especially by isolating Hamas.
However, Hezbollah’s response was cautious. Hajj Mahmud Komati, vice president of the group’s Political Council, expressed doubts about Netanyahu’s sincerity and warned of possible traps in the negotiations.
This distrust is reflected in the current context, where Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati strongly criticized Israeli actions, noting that recent attacks on Beirut demonstrate a deep hatred towards the Lebanese capital, considered an “incubator” for all Lebanese.

One of the attacks in the Barbour district caused three deaths and ten injuries, while another in Nuweiri tragically resulted in seven deaths and 37 injuries after bombing a residential building.
The imminence of the agreement has led to an almost total paralysis of traffic in Beirut, with many residents from central areas seeking refuge in zones considered safer, such as the waterfront and northern parts of the city.
Despite Netanyahu’s promise to allow residents from the north to return home, recent attacks have created an atmosphere of uncertainty and fear.
Additionally, more than 40 UN human rights experts and rapporteurs have urged the international community to act in accordance with arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant.
This call highlights increasing pressures on Israel in the international arena regarding human rights violations in the context of the conflict.
As the ceasefire is expected to take effect between 4:00 and 6:00 hours the following day, with the United States and France officially announcing the agreement tonight at 10:00 local time, the international community is closely watching how events will unfold in this region marked by decades of conflict and distrust.
