The Gaza government’s media office identified the latest victim as Mohammed Meshmesh, program director of Al-Aqsa Voice Radio. He did not provide details of the circumstances or date of his death.

In early May, the Palestinian Resistance movement denounced the continuation of the Israeli war against journalists as a flagrant violation of all international norms and conventions, and stressed that the crimes of occupation against these professionals will not obscure the reality of their terrorism.

In the same vein, he called on journalists in Palestine to “more firmness, creativity and excellence in the presentation of his message, by faith in the justice of the cause and loyalty to the blood of the martyrs, the sacrifices of the prisoners and the firmness and resistance of the people in the Gaza Strip and in all areas of the nation”.

Israel has faced international condemnation in the midst of its continued brutal offensive on Gaza since a Hamas attack on 7 October, while disobeying a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Since then, more than 38,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and more than 89,000 injured, according to local health authorities.

More than nine months after the Israeli offensive, large swathes of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, drinking water and medicine.

On the most recent World Press Day, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awarded its World Press Freedom Prize to all Palestinian journalists covering the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
