The new Honduras’ Defense Minister, Rixi Moncada, said on Sunday that she was sworn in to the office, received instructions from President Xiomara Castro about the work that must be done to serve citizens and the country and that the Army will accompany the democratic process that this nation is living.

Moncada, who was named hours before, stated that he had a brief meeting with the head of state Xiomara Castro in her capacity as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.

The new minister emphasized that the Armed Forces are an apolitical, obedient, non-belligerent institution with well-defined functions, so “following and respecting the chapter that has to do with national defense” “will accompany the exercise of civilian power resulting from peaceful, democratic and fair elections in 2021.

She explained that during this meeting, the constitutional and legal nature of the decisions taken by the State was examined, as well as the need to give the State, through its institutions, the dignity that the Honduran people deserve.

At an official event held at the Presidential House, the President @XiomaraCastroZ, he took an oath @riximga as the new Secretary of @Sedenahn.

In this regard Moncada said that they “have confirmed our commitment to serve the country in an institution such as the FAJ, which has essential characteristics.”

She added that as a citizen, she will also exercise her political rights within the framework established by the Constitution and law, and will devote the time required to meet the goals indicated by Head of State Xiomara Castro.
