Police responded to reports of gunfire at around 12:30 a.m local time.

Club Blu, located in the Gulf Coast city of Fort Myers which is approximately 150 miles southwest of Orlando, was hosting an all-ages "swimsuit glow party," according to a flyer posted on Twitter by local television station WINK. According to posts by the nightclub's Facebook page, the shooting broke out just as parents were picking their children up from the event.

Capt. Jim Mulligan of the Fort Meyers Police Department told WINK that 16 people were treated for their wounds following the shooting, with four of them still in the hospital. The youngest victim was reportedly 12 years old. According to Cheryl Garn, a spokeswoman for Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, one of the victims died from their wounds at the hospital, while a second victim died at the scene of the shooting.

Three people are in police custody in connection to the shooting, Mulligan said. Police have not suggested a possible motive.

The attack comes six weeks after 49 people were killed in a mass shooting at an LGBT nightclub in Orlando, Florida.
