Despite their contentious and personal spats, Cruz says that President Hillary Clinton is wholly unacceptable.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz said on Tuesday he’s “happy” to give a hand to his former Republican opponent and presidential nominee Donald Trump, who, according to instant polls, lost the first televised debate against Hillary Clinton.

"I am happy to help. I have conveyed that to them. I will do whatever I can to defeat Hillary Clinton," Cruz said in an interview with Hugh Hewitt, a U.S. journalist known for his conservative approach.

Cruz added he is equally focused on preserving a Republican majority in the Senate so he has pledged to campaign among the conservatives in order to make sure they will vote.

"I'm going to do everything I can to urge conservatives to come out and vote, even if they may not be thrilled at the candidates on the ballot. I'm urging them to come out and vote anyway, because the consequences of staying home, I think, are really quite significant."

Initially, Cruz was the favorite among Republicans—not to mention the ultra-conservative Tea Party to face Hillary Clinton, but he couldn't win the GOP nomination. Initially, Cruz refused even to endorse him during his speech at the GOP convention, laying bare the bitter divisions within the party.

A couple of days ago he published on Facebook that he finally had decided to endorse Trump, saying that an electoral triumph by Clinton would be “wholly unacceptable.”

Trump and Cruz have a complicated past, especially after Trump posted an unflattering photograph of Cruz's wife and compared it with one of his own wife Melania. He also connected Cruz’s father, to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
