The group also recalled that it is not the first attempt by the international community to tackle the problem with similar initiatives.

On Monday, the National Progressive Democrats Group expressed its deepest concern for the poor security situation in Haiti and also condemned that 80 percent of the capital is controlled by gangs.

According to official reports, armed groups rob and kidnap citizens for ransom, forcing residents to leave their besieged neighborhoods and seek refuge in other safer areas.

Despite the serious violence crisis, the structure is reserved about the deployment of foreign troops requested by the Government to fight off the gangs.

The group also recalled that it is not the first attempt by the international community to tackle the problem with similar initiatives.

Furthermore, several reports state that three foreign military interventions in the last three decades are the result of the incapacity of leaders to manage the country responsibly and of the deep divisions among Haitian actors as to the way forward to solve the problems of the Haitian people.

Official data shows that Haiti has suffered from gang violence for decades, but the current wave of brutality escalated after the July 2021 assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.
