Is World's Biggest Quinceañera About to Go Down in Mexico?

Over one million people invited themselves to a Mexican girl’s quinceañera after the public Facebook event, with an open invitation, went viral.

The traditional Latin American coming-of-age party, thrown when a young girl turns 15 was originally meant to be open to all neighbors, but a video of the girl's dad inviting everyone went viral, and over 1.2 million users clicked “attending.”

The sensation was then spoofed on comedy shows and in memes, companies offered promotions for people attending and tweeters created fake VIP passes and tickets.

Rubi’s father, Crescencio Ibarra, said in a TV interview that he was upset people poked fun at their rural lifestyle — he’s wearing a cowboy hat in the video and announces the party will feature a horse race — and he reportedly uninvited all strangers.

Still, he said he was amused at some of the spin-offs, like the meme that shows U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto agreeing to let undocumented immigrants into the country to attend the quinceañera.

The town of La Joya, in the state of San Luis Potosi, will deploy police in case those Facebook users do attend.
