The pontiff will travel to the coastal city of Guayaquil Monday morning, before returning to the Ecuadorean capital for a mass service on Tuesday where some 2 million people are expected to attend.
This is the second trip to Latin America for Pope Francis, who was in Brazil for World Youth Day in 2013. During his eight-day trip, the pope will also visit Bolivia and Paraguay, where he will stress the issue of inequality and poverty in the region.
