News reports speak of an incident on April 15 that forced his private jet to land in Illinois, after which Prince told his fans it was all about a minor flu.

An autopsy on legendary pop star Prince was underway Friday to determine the cause of the musicians death, which to date remain a mystery, although rumors of it having to do with drugs began to emerge.

Various news websites revealed that Prince, 57, was taken to the hospital six days before his death on Thursday to be treated for an apparent overdose of an opiate, but on Twitter many people have refuted any insinuation that the legend's death is linked to drugs in any way.

The celebrity gossip site TMX quoted a source telling them that Prince had received a "save shot," typically used to counteract the effects of an opiate on Friday, April 15.

The rumors and the lack of clarity surrounding his death have prompted a police in his hometown Minneneapolis to investigate Prince's death as a possible overdose.

However, on April 15, Prince held a concert and told his fans that he had been treated for mild symptons related to the flu.

Prince was found by an unidentifed person inside an elevator at his Paisley Park home, which was also his recording studio.

This is the 911 call of notifying of his death: "Um, we're at Prince's house," the man told the operator. "So, yeah, um, the person is dead here ... Yes, it's Prince."

Paramedics were immediately dispatched to Prince's home and was declared “DOA” or dead on arrival after efforts to revive him failed.

Mayte Garcia, Prince's first wife, spoke out just hours after the star's death and was quoted as saying, "This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated. I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now."

Garcia was making reference to their son Boy Gregory who was born with Pfeiffer syndrome and died a week after.

Prince was found pronounced dead on Thursday at 10:07 a.m. local time, and since the cause of his death has not been determined.

The Guardian, however, remembered that on Friday, April 15, Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Illionois, an incident that would not have allegedly taken place if the Funk, R&B and rock singer was only ill with a minor flu.

The Midwest medical examiner’s office said Friday, according to The Guardian, that it could take days to determine the cause of Prince's death, and weeks to receive the results of toxicology tests.

The autopsy was being conducted in Ramsay, Minnesota, by the office’s chief medical examiner, Dr A Quinn Strobl.

Prince sold over 100 million records throughout his career and today his death has prompted an emotional reaction around the world.

Even Barack Obama, who was flying from Saudi Arabia to London on Air Force One when he found out about Prince's death, said he was mourning along with millions of fans.

“Few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent. As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all,” said Obama.

In 2010, Prince announced publicly that he had recovered from drug addiction after being visited by a Jehova's witness called Larry, who convinced him to convert.

“Larry goes door to door to tell people the truth about God. That’s why I told myself I need to know a man like him. He’s a friend who calls me his baby brother,” Prince said back then.
