The animated Venezuelan film, "Pequeños Heroes," or "Small Heroes," portraying the life of Latin America's liberator, Simon Bolivar, is set for release at the 2017 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
The film is based on the Bolivarian revolution and is narrated through the eyes of three children witnessing the struggle against the Spanish Empire. Simon Bolivar helped win the independence of Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Panama, freeing the Latin American nations from the Spanish rule.
"Pequeños Heroes," directed by the Argentine Juan Pablo Buscarini and co-produced by the Villa del Cine, will be shown at several events, including the most important festival in the world in the genre of animation, Annecy.
Buscarini said, "The idea was to make a film, a high-level technological and artistic film to release it in all of Latin America and the world."
"I wanted to direct and tell stories of adventures for kids to know something of history, not from the pedagogical point as in the school, but in a cinema," he added.
This is the first animated production that is made in the region using the technique of motion capture, a method used in films like "Beowulf" and "The Planet of the Apes."
Bolivar's life has been told before in animated films such as the Venezuelan short "Bolivar, That's Me" (1994) and "The Colombian Bolivar, El Heroe" (2003).
Since the Argentine director sought to have children identify with an adult military character, to appeal to them and make the plot understandable, he devised children characters.
