The Venezuelan Foreign Minister defended Venezuela's right to speak at the U.N. Human Rights Council against remarks made by the U.S. ambassador.

The Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, defended Venezuela's right to participate in the United Nations Human Rights Council against the attacks of the United States U.N. ambassador, Nikki Haley, and said that the United States is the “greatest violator of human rights in the world.”

After Haley had said that the Venezuelan minister's plans to speak before the U.N Human Rights Council was a “mockery of the institution,” Arreaza responded by saying “we suggest to Mrs. Nikki Haley that she worry about the heinous violations committed by the United States against human rights in the rest of the world.”

“Without a doubt, the United States is the greatest violator of human rights in the world, because it is the country that initiates wars for oil, bombs civilians, and imposes economic blockades,” the Venezuelan diplomat said.

He said that the statements of the U.S. ambassador are an “unprecedented impudence” on Venezuela's right to participate in the United Nations.

Arreaza will be speaking at the United Nations organization this week, representing Venezuela as a defense against foreign accusations of alleged “human rights violations.”

Nikki Haley recently expressed her opposition to Venezuela exercising its rights as a sovereign nation before the Human Rights Council, saying that “to have the Venezuelan minister speaking before the United Nations contrasts with the union's foundations, because the Maduro regime continues to rob the Venezuelan people of liberty and prosperity,” echoing previous accusations leveled against the democratically elected government of Nicolas Maduro by the United States.
