Nicaragua and Belarus Sign Agreements to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

PM Golovchenko arrived in Managua to participate in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista revolution.
On Thursday, Nicaragua and Belarus signed cooperation agreements in health, education, transportation, and infrastructure in Managua.

The agreements were signed by Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko and Laureano Ortega-Murillo, who holds the position of advisor for the promotion of investments, trade, and international cooperation of the Presidency.
The signing of these agreements took place in the context of a visit by a Belarusian delegation that will participate in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista revolution, which overthrew the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza on July 19, 1979.
The Prime Minister of Belarus arrived in Managua to participate in the Sandinista celebrations after visiting Venezuela, where he met with President Nicolas Maduro.
On the eve of the visit, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko sent a message to the Nicaraguan government on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the revolution, stating that the presence of a governmental delegation at the celebration “is proof of the great importance we place on developing interaction with your country.”
Lukashenko expressed his pleasure in observing the dynamic expansion of political, commercial, and economic cooperation. He hopes that “the gradual rapprochement between Minsk and Managua will soon begin to yield tangible results and positively affect the well-being of our citizens.”
On April 10, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)for the supply of machinery and technology equipment in favor of the Central American country. Among this equipment are machinery for construction, road maintenance, and municipal cleaning. Another MoU will facilitate the Nicaraguan Armed Forces’ access to specialized military equipment.
