Managua issued a statement stating that, “his Enduring Message of Love of Neighbor, Non-Violence and the Permanent Search for Understanding, still resonates in the souls, minds and hearts of those of us who aspire to live and prosper in a World of Peace, Brotherhood and Fraternal Solidarity, free from the yoke of colonial oppression and empires.”

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, universally known as Mahatma Gandhi, was much more than a political leader. He was a pacifist revolutionary who challenged the British empire and achieved independence from India through nonviolent resistance.

The impact of Gandhi’s speech on history transcends India’s independence. His philosophy of nonviolent resistance became a model for civil rights movements around the world, starting with Martin Luther King Jr. in the US to Nelson Mandela in South Africa.
