Nicaragua Expresses Solidarity With Vietnam in the Face of the Destruction Caused by Yagi

On Wednesday, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega sent a message of solidarity to President To Lam and the Vietnamese people who suffered the onslaught of Typhoon Yagi.

“In the face of the misfortunes caused by Typhoon Yagi, which have already left hundreds dead and missing, we sincerely and affectionately express to you our militant solidarity in the certainty that normality and tranquility will soon be restored to the daily lives of so many families,” he said.

“To all the affected communities, as well as to the authorities who act with efficiency and speed, we dedicate our prayers, maintaining the historic bond of admiration, respect and fraternal friendship,” Ortega added.

“From Nicaragua, always blessed and free, we support the efforts of this great people, facing today the challenges of climatic injustice.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, landslides and floods have left 179 dead and 145 missing persons in Vietnam. Among the fatalities, 29 were from Cao Bang Province, 45 from Lao Cai Province and 37 from Yen Bai Province.

On Tuesday night, authorities of Tuyen Quang province confirmed that the dyke of Lo River running through Quyet Thang commune has broken due to rising river water. Flood levels on the Red River in Hanoi have exceeded warning level 2 on a three-level scale.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting issued a warning over extremely high water levels on Thao River and quickly rising floods on several others. It has warned against extremely high flood water on rivers in the north. There is a high risk of flooding in low-lying riverside areas in the northern localities, while flash floods and landslides are forecast in the mountainous areas.
