“On that date, the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will swear in the constitutional president, Nicolas Maduro, who was elected by the people’s vote and proclaimed by the National Electoral Council,” he stated.

Regarding the U.S.-backed politician Edmundo Gonzalez, the AN president said that the far-right former candidate acts “as if that day is not going to happen and as if the Venezuelan population lives in a state of amnesia. But that’s not the case. On January 11, people will wake up and say, ‘that old liar fooled us again’.”

The Bolivarian legislator also recalled that the far-right Venezuelan opposition does not fight for ideology but instead “they struggle for money, to see who can take the most money.”

These statements follow Gonzalez’s remarks to Spanish media claiming that he will return to Venezuela on January 10 to “assume the presidency.” Similarly, another U.S.-backed politician, Maria Corina Machado, also declared that she would return to assume the vice presidency.

During Thursday’s parliamentary session, Venezuelan legislators reviewed the activities carried out in 2024 and closed the second period of ordinary sessions for the year.

Legislator Hermann Escarrá also presented a triennial report of activities as the president of the Special Commission for the Defense of the Guayana Esequiba Territory and Territorial Sovereignty.
