The Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Kashim Shettima, in the context of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations, warned that this plenary should work on the basis of development and progress for men and women as the African nation has done.

“We have developed a national action plan on women, peace and security as well as others on youth,” he said, explaining that this ensures the participation of both age groups in society.
Shettima further stressed that “the world has to answer moral questions which go beyond the statements we make from this rostrum, which have to do with the law of the United Nations”.
On the subject of the 79th session, he stated that “there is still a long way to go in order to bridge the gaps between aspirations and reality”.
He also noted that the UN represents inclusion from the three main pillars of “peace, sustainable development, and human rights”, warning at the same time that these are “in check” and “could crumble”.
This is because there are certain nations that take their personal interests over the common rights of nations belonging to the UN.
Taking the 2023 Summit as a reference, the African Deputy explained that the international community continues to drag challenges, among which he pointed out “terrorism, armed conflict, poverty, discrimination” and others.
As with the issue of women, the deputy said that “through the Youth Investment Fund 2024,” the country will continue to revitalize everything concerning the well-being and rights of young people, as well as their empowerment.
He also stressed that the nation seeks to support the entrepreneurship of low-age groups in order to contribute to their development.
Finally, the African leader concluded by reaffirming “Nigeria’s substantive commitment to honour multilateralism,” committing to maintaining friendly ties with member nations.
