The two candidates with the highest chances of winning are Luisa Gonzalez and Daniel Noboa.
On Sunday, over 13.7 million Ecuadorians will head to the polls to elect 151 legislators for the National Assembly, 5 representatives for the Andean Parliament, and the president and vice president of the Republic for the 2025-2029 term.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) announced that 4,349 polling stations set up across the country’s 24 provinces will open at 7:00 a.m. and remain operational until 5:00 p.m.
Authorities also stated that 13,279,830 Ecuadorians are eligible to vote within the country, while 456,485 citizens abroad will be able to cast their ballots. CNE President Diana Atamaint urged all citizens, both at home and abroad, to participate in the elections “with civility and love for the homeland.”
“Exercising the right to vote is a new opportunity to renew our commitment to democracy, because the future of Ecuador is in our hands,” she said.
In the 2025 elections, 16 politicians are vying for the presidency. However, according to voter intention polls, the two candidates with the highest chances of winning or advancing to a runoff are incumbent President Daniel Noboa, who is seeking re-election, and opposition candidate Luisa Gonzalez, a leftist lawyer representing the Citizen Revolution (RC) party.
To avoid a runoff, the winner of this Sunday’s election must secure 50 percent of the votes or at least 40 percent with a 10-point lead over the second-place candidate. If this scenario does not occur, a runoff between the two top candidates will take place on April 13.
The 2025 elections are taking place amid a multidimensional crisis caused by seven years of conservative governments whose neoliberal policies have devastated the economy, energy generation, and public security.
