Palestinian Detainees Endure Cruel Conditions in Israel’s Megiddo Prison

The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs has raised alarm over the inhumane conditions faced by Palestinian detainees inside Israel’s Megiddo Prison, where food is scarce, and hygiene supplies are severely lacking.
A lawyer from the Commission reported on Wednesday that Naseem Hosni Hamad, a 26-year-old detainee from Sidon, northeast of Tulkarm, has been suffering from dizziness, chronic headaches, and scabies. He has been imprisoned since December 21, 2023, and is held in Section 2, Room 1.
Neglect and Systematic Starvation
Hamad described deliberate medical neglect by prison authorities, who refuse to provide him painkillers or allow him to visit the prison clinic. Despite receiving treatment for scabies, his condition persists due to poor ventilation, excessive dampness, and inadequate hygiene facilities.
In his testimony, he revealed that:
- Showering time is officially set for one hour, but the prison administration only allows 30 minutes, making it impossible for all detainees to wash properly.
- He has lost 24 kilograms due to a systematic starvation policy, with food being poor in quality and insufficient in quantity.
Palestinian detainees have long reported mistreatment, medical negligence, and punitive restrictions in Israeli prisons. Human rights organizations continue to call for international intervention to ensure their basic rights and dignity are upheld.
