Palestinian Education Ministry: Nearly 15,000 Students Killed Since Onset of Israeli Aggression

Gaza/West Bank – April 30, 2025 — The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education reported on Tuesday that 14,784 students have been killed and 24,766 injured since October 7, 2023, as a result of ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank.

The breakdown includes:

  • Gaza: At least 14,649 students killed, and 23,936 injured.
  • West Bank: 135 students killed, 830 injured, and 724 detained.

The statement also detailed a sharp toll on educators:

  • 880 teachers and administrative staff killed, with 4,247 injured.
  • At least 193 educational staff members detained in the West Bank.

Damage to educational infrastructure has been widespread:

  • 352 government schools severely damaged, including 111 completely destroyed.
  • 91 government schools and 89 UNRWA-run schools have been bombed or vandalized.
  • 20 higher education institutions have sustained heavy damage, with 60 university buildings fully demolished.
  • In the West Bank, 146 schools and 8 universities have been raided and vandalized.
  • Schools in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas have suffered structural wall destruction.

The Ministry also revealed that Israeli authorities have warned of the closure of UNRWA schools in Jerusalem as of May 8.

Currently, 788,000 students in Gaza remain unable to attend school or university, many of whom are facing psychological trauma and worsening health conditions due to the conflict.
