On Tuesday, the Palestinian Presidency announced an urgent initiative to collaborate with countries hosting Palestinian refugees to explore the possibility of addressing the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly regarding the status of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The Presidency reiterated that UNRWA was established by the General Assembly through Resolution 302 (IV) on December 8, 1949, and emphasized that the agency must continue its operations and services for Palestinian refugees until a fair and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue is achieved.

It expressed gratitude to several nations for their condemnation of the recent decision by the Israeli Knesset, which contradicts international norms and law. These countries have called on the Israeli government to adhere to its international obligations, maintain UNRWA’s privileges and immunities, and fulfill its responsibilities.

The Palestinian Presidency urged these nations to take decisive actions to halt Israeli actions that could escalate tensions and instability in the region. It held the Israeli government fully accountable for the serious consequences stemming from this decision.

Moreover, it stressed that Israel’s aggressive practices will not lead to security or stability but will instead exacerbate turmoil in the region unless a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue is found in accordance with UN resolutions and international law.
