The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club and the Committee on Detainees and Former Detainees the two main organizations that protect the rights of these prisoners, reported on Sunday a “large-scale assault” against detainees in Israeli prison of Ofer.

“These raids are known to be violent, oppressive and humiliating for detainees,” prisoners’ associations denounced in a joint statement.
The two organizations appealed to the mediators of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza (Egypt, Qatar and the US), which involves weekly release of hostages in the Strip in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, to put “on the table of negotiations” the treatment they receive.
The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas also denounced the attack on the prisoners, which it described as “brutal” and “barbaric”.
“These assaults are a continuation of the brutal and sadistic practices that the (Israeli) occupation carries out against our brave prisoners in prisons, and a desperate attempt to restore their shattered prestige,” the statement read.
The Ofer prison in the middle of the occupied West Bank is known, as is the Sde Teiman detention camp in the southern Negev desert, for abuses committed against Palestinian prisoners, that have been collected by institutions such as the Israeli human rights NGO B’Tselem.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club and the Committee for Detainees and Former Detainees, 58 prisoners have died in Israeli prisons since 7 October 2023 when Gaza militia launched their attack on Israeli territory.
