Paraguay Has Registered 31 Feminicides in 2024, Leaving 65 Children Orphaned

The report indicates that most feminicides were committed by couples (18 cases) and ex-partners (10), reflecting an alarming trend of domestic violence.

The Public Ministry of Paraguay revealed that this alarming figure was announced in a statement detailing the statistics of the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Open Data Program, highlighting the gravity of gender-based violence in the country.
According to the data, the victims of femicide were between 14 and 73 years old, with the majority being Paraguayans (29) and two Brazilians.
Of the total number of women killed, 27 were mothers, emphasizing the devastating impact of these crimes not only on the victims but also on their families and communities.
The report indicates that most feminicides were committed by couples (18 cases) and ex-partners (10), reflecting an alarming trend of domestic violence.
It is also reported that most homicides occurred in the home (25 cases), with knives (13) and firearms (7) being the predominant weapons used. This pattern suggests an urgent need to address domestic violence and strengthen protective measures for women.
Geographically, the Central department, which is the most populous in the country, leads with ten feminicides recorded so far.
Other affected departments include Alto Paraná (7), Amambay (3), and Canindeyú (2). The most critical months have been January and March, each with five cases.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has taken action by charging 23 individuals responsible for these crimes; however, the situation is even more tragic as it reports that six of the aggressors have committed suicide and two are still at large with warrants out for their arrest.
