Once the Ecuadorian National Electoral Council announced the results of the race, Gonzalez denounced what she described as electoral fraud carried out in favor of right-wing President Daniel Noboa, who will serve in office for the 2025–2029 term.
This morning, her vice-presidential candidate Diego Borja also claimed that the Noboa administration used the state apparatus to manipulate the democratic process.
Over the past 24 hours, social and political organizations from around the world have expressed their support for Gonzalez and Borja in the face of what they consider a flagrant violation of the Ecuadorian people’s political rights. Below is the full statement issued by the Guasu Front:
“Once again, the Latin American right, resorting to all manner of anti-democratic tactics, strikes against the sovereign will of our peoples.
This time, the target of this attack is the brotherly Ecuadorian people. After declaring a ‘State of Emergency’ in provinces where its electoral defeat was imminent, the Ecuadorian government—controlled by a voracious oligarchy—carried out a scandalous and crude electoral fraud in the runoff held yesterday.
The wealthy businessman Daniel Noboa, representative of the interests of the economic groups that have historically oppressed the Ecuadorian people, made use of his control over the state—including the electoral authority—to distort the popular will and block the advance of progressive forces.
The Ecuadorian people, who experienced a true process of transformation and dignity during Rafael Correa’s government through the Citizen Revolution project, placed their hopes in comrade Luisa Gonzalez to return to that path of justice, sovereignty, and equity.
From the Guasu Front, we express our strongest solidarity with the Ecuadorian people and denounce before the international community this serious violation of their democratic will.”
