Peruvian Congress Does Not Authorize President Dina Boluarte’s Trip to the UN

With 55 votes against, 50 in favor and five abstentions, the full Congress did not approve the departure of the Peruvian president.

The Legislative Congress of Peru did not authorize this Tuesday to President Dina Boluarte, to leave the national territory in the end of September 22 to 25 of the current year to attend the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).

Draft Legislative Resolution 8.834, requested permission for President Dina Boluarte to leave Peru between 21 and 26 September, to participate in the main activities of the High-level Week of the Seventy-ninth Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

«With 55 votes against, 50 in favor and five abstentions, the plenary of the Congress did not approve Draft Legislative Resolution 8.834, which requests the departure of the president of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, from the national territory», reported the nation’s Congress through its X account.

According to the draft legislative resolution, the President intended to remain in charge of the presidential office remotely.

The congressmen did not reveal the reasons why they prevented the head of state from making the trip.

Currently, in Peru thousands of hectares of forests and crops are being destroyed due to forest fires, more than 95 percent of which are produced by people. The authorities request cooperation to prevent the spread of the same.
