The first polling places in the United States are closing this Tuesday evening, marking the beginning of vote counting in 80 counties in Indiana and 79 in Kentucky. However, the election day is overshadowed by former President Donald Trump’s allegations of massive fraud related to the city of Philadelphia.

Through his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated: “There is a lot of talk about massive fraud in Philadelphia,” although he did not provide any evidence to support his claims. These allegations arise in a context where voters are rushing to cast their ballots in a tight electoral contest against current Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.

Trump’s unfounded accusations have raised concerns about potential disputes and controversies regarding the election results. The security and transparency of the electoral process are under scrutiny from citizens who eagerly await to know who will be the next president of the nation.

Philadelphia City Commissioner Seth Bluestein assured that they are in constant contact with the Republican National Committee to address any allegations of irregularities. “We have responded to all claims to ensure the safety of the voting process,” Bluestein emphasized, also dismissing the accusations by stating that “there is absolutely nothing true in this claim. It is yet another example of misinformation.”

In this election, the candidate who secures at least 270 electoral votes will be declared the winner. Polls have suggested the possibility of a tie, which would lead to the newly elected House of Representatives deciding who will assume the presidency.

Attention is particularly focused on the so-called “swing states,” which do not clearly lean toward one party or another and can be decisive for the final outcome. In this instance, the key states are Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which together total 93 electoral votes.

The winner of this election will assume the presidency on January 20 for a four-year term.
