In his traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing, pronounced from St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, Pope Francis made an urgent call for dialogue and negotiation to end the war conflicts that affect various regions of the world.
The Holy Father also drew attention to the grave humanitarian situation in Gaza, where Israeli attacks have left a devastating toll of approximately 44,000 dead.
Francis called for the release of hostages and emphasized the need for assistance to a population suffering from hunger and war. “My thoughts are particularly with the community in Gaza,” he expressed with concern.

In a message addressed to political authorities and people of goodwill on the American continent, Francis urged that “effective solutions be found in truth and justice” to promote social harmony in the context of the Jubilee year 2025.
The Pontiff also referred to the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where children are facing an epidemic of measles, as well as the difficulties faced by countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Mozambique.
Pope Francis pleaded for peace and fraternity in the Horn of Africa and stressed the importance of the international community fulfilling its humanitarian aid commitments, especially in Sudan.
During his Christmas Eve Mass, which marked the beginning of the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee, Pope Francis urged reflection on wars and their devastating consequences, remembering child victims of violence and attacks on schools and hospitals.
He called for “translating hope into our life situations” and for courage to change what is wrong, underlining the need to transform a world affected by poverty, slavery, and conflict.
