Pope Francis Remains ‘Stable’ and Overs the Respiratory Crisis

In a statement issued by the Holy See, it has been reported that Pope Francis experienced two episodes of acute respiratory insufficiency on Monday, leading to further adjustments in his medical treatment.

Despite these setbacks, the pontiff has remained lucid and cooperative during his stay at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been admitted for the past 18 days.

The episodes of respiratory insufficiency have been attributed to a significant buildup of endobronchial mucus, a consequence of the bilateral pneumonia he is suffering from.

To address this, two bronchoscopies were performed to aspirate the abundant secretions generated by his lungs in an effort to expel the bacteria present.

The medical report details that, although the Pope has been receiving high-flow oxygen daily, he had to resume “non-invasive” mechanical ventilation to assist his breathing.

However, the statement emphasizes that the Holy Father has remained “always lucid, oriented, and cooperative,” reflecting his strength in the face of adversity.

His resilience and spirit have been a beacon of hope for many, and it is hoped that he will continue to receive the necessary support for his recovery.
