The clinical condition of Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for 30 days at the Gemelli hospital in Rome for respiratory problems, remains stable and his improvement continues gradually, but he will still need to remain in the hospital for an indefinite period.

Update on Pope Francis’s Health: Slight Improvements in a Complex Context

After 72 hours without a medical report and only with some details provided by Vatican sources, the Vatican released a brief statement this Saturday explaining that “the clinical conditions of the Holy Father remain stable, confirming the progress highlighted in the last week.”

It was also reported “that high-flow oxygen therapy continues, progressively reducing the need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation during the night.”

However, the medical report adds, “the Holy Father still requires hospital medical treatment, motor and respiratory physiotherapy,” but, they indicated, “this treatment shows additional and gradual improvements.”

The pontiff spent the day doing motor and respiratory physiotherapy, worked a little and dedicated moments to prayer, according to Vatican sources.

Given the “stability” of the Pope’s condition, the doctors at Gemelli have decided to report after several days when they can give more details, so another medical report will not arrive before Tuesday or Wednesday.

Pope Francis has been hospitalized for one month at the Gemelli in Rome due to bilateral pneumonia, showing a progressive improvement and a good response to treatment, although with critical moments.

Despite his condition, he has maintained contact with the outside world through messages and telephone calls, and has received visits from senior Vatican officials. The Vatican continues to disseminate the text of the Angelus, maintaining communication with the faithful despite the Pope’s physical absence.
