Pope Francis is showing a “good response” to therapy and a “gradual” improvement after 23 days of being admitted to the Gemelli hospital in Rome for his respiratory problems, the Holy See reported this Saturday.

“The clinical conditions of the Holy Father in recent days have remained stable and, consequently, demonstrate a good response to the therapy. Therefore, a gradual, slight improvement is being recorded,” according to the latest medical bulletin released by the Vatican.
The Argentine pontiff, 88 years old, has been hospitalized since February 14 due to bilateral pneumonia.
Furthermore, in recent days he has remained fever-free and gas exchange in his respiratory system has improved.
Blood chemistry and blood count analyses “are confirmed to be stable.”
The doctors attending to him, while waiting to also register these “initial” improvements in the coming days, maintain a reserved prognosis, without determining how he will evolve.
This morning Francis, after receiving the Eucharist, prayed in the chapel of the private apartment that the Popes have on the tenth floor of the Gemelli hospital.
In the afternoon, he alternated rest with some work tasks, which generally consist of signing or reviewing some documents, writings, or appointments.
