President Maduro: Allende Was a Great Example of the Courageous Left

In his speech, the head of state highlighted the struggle of the Mapuche people.
The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro recalled this Wednesday the legacy of Chilean president Salvador Allende, recognizing him as the first president who tried to make the first peaceful and electoral-democratic revolution in our America.

At the inauguration of the Centro de Diagnóstico Integral (CDI) La Dolorita, in Petare, Miranda state, which coincided with another anniversary of the presidential election of Salvador Allende in 1970, the Venezuelan head of state insisted that the Chilean politician was “a prime example of the courageous left, who listens to the advice of the humble people”.
“They surrounded him with tanks, they bombed him to surrender. I had never taken a rifle. That day he took it”, narrated Nicolás Maduro about the assassination of Allende during the coup d’état and the subsequent establishment of dictatorship in Chile.
Meanwhile, Maduro said that fascism came. “Salvador warned that a fascist right had emerged. A dictatorship was imposed. And who was responsible? The United States with Richard Nixon as president and Henry Kissinger as secretary of state,” he said.
In specifying data of the current political reality in Chile, the Venezuelan president asked for the release of political prisoners during the demonstrations against President Sebastián Piñera, more than 2,500 prisoners claimed, while highlighting the struggle of the Mapuche people.
Recalling the phrase of Simón Bolívar when he pointed out that the United States seems destined by Providence to plunder the America of miseries in the name of freedom, Nicolás Maduro insisted that “more power have the peoples who fight than the empires that conspire”.
On the other hand, the president stressed that criminal plans are being investigated in relation to the sabotage of the national electricity system. And he said that in the next few hours, “the criminal plans being unveiled and the criminals we are catching will be known. They are fascist, diabolical plans”, he remarked.
He also recalled the intention of the far-right to affect health centres, while mentioning the marrow transplant performed during the sabotage.
Meanwhile, he insisted that they could never be true and patriotic and “the true civilization that will emerge will be that of love”.
The head of state highlighted the resistance of the Bolivarian people to attempts at destabilization, and their ability to overcome challenges.
