They reviewed the their countries’ cooperation agreements, which have been materialized through the High-Level Joint Commission. These agreements covered areas such as energy, pharmaceuticals, mining, agriculture, oil, communication, and culture. They also discussed enhancing economic and commercial cooperation.

The Bolivarian leader was accompanied by Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, First Lady Cilia Flores, Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil, and other Venezuelan officials.

“Venezuela and Iran play a prominent role in current geopolitics and are key actors in balancing the energy market as founding members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC),” FuserNews recalled.

“In 2023, the governments of both nations agreed to increase cooperation to US$10 billion as part of their strategic bilateral relations for the development of their peoples,” it added.

Iran joined BRICS in January and is attending for the first time as a permanent member of this economic cooperation group, which is appreciated by Global South countries as an alternative to counter Western influence.

On the final day of the Kazan summit, where the economic cooperation bloc held its first session under the “BRICS Plus” format, Maduro also met with Bolivian President Luis Arce and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

During his address at the plenary session, the Venezuelan president highlighted the importance of consolidating BRICS as a dialogue space for building a new international order. He stressed the need for a new global economic agenda with practical solutions to international trade and monetary exchange issues, referring to “the need for a new world monetary system.”
