In an emotional event held at the Paseo Monumental Los Próceres in Caracas, President Nicolás Maduro led the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Ayacucho, an event that not only commemorates one of the most significant victories in the struggle for Latin America’s independence but also serves as a symbol of the identity and resistance of the Venezuelan people.
President Maduro, in his speech, emphasized that Venezuela is the “people of the victors of Ayacucho,” highlighting the historical significance of this event that sealed the fate of America in 1824.
In referring to the battle, the president stressed that the ideals of freedom and sovereignty that propelled the liberators two centuries ago are still valid today, at a time when Venezuela faces internal and external challenges that threaten its integrity and autonomy.
The president emphasized the need for a “popular-military-police fusion” to face the adversities of the 21st century, arguing that unity among different sectors of society is crucial to preserving the achievements made since independence.
This approach suggests a continuity between the past and the present, where struggles for social justice and self-determination are seen as a legacy that must be defended by new generations.
Maduro’s speech also addressed the construction of an “independent, productive, and sovereign economic model,” as well as a “political model of direct, community, and neighborhood democracy.”
This call to action resonates with the Bolivarian principles that have guided the country since its independence, proposing a path toward a Venezuela that not only clings to its history but also seeks to reinvent itself in a changing global context.
The president also highlighted Venezuela’s cultural diversity, recognizing its Indigenous and Afro-descendant roots as fundamental parts of its identity. This acknowledgment of the country’s cultural richness is not only an act of historical vindication but also an invitation to build an inclusive society that values its multiple identities.
At the end of his speech, Maduro urged Venezuelans to swear allegiance to a free and sovereign homeland, reaffirming their commitment to the principles of independence that were achieved two centuries ago.
