‘Washington plays by its own rules… Any result other than the victory of its candidate is unacceptable to them,’ Volodin stated.

On Friday, Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the Russian Lower House (Duma), said that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s victory in the 2024 elections was legitimate.

“Venezuelan citizens voted for the current President Maduro… According to our observers, he won legitimately,” Volodin wrote in social networks.

Venezuela’s presidential elections were held on July 28. On Monday, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Maduro the winner with 51.2 percent of the counted votes.

A military officer in Aragua state was killed and 48 military and police officers were injured in violent actions following Sunday’s elections in Venezuela, the country’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab said.

Up to 749 people have been arrested for participating in urban violent actions over charges of incitement, obstructing public roads, hate crimes, resisting arrest, and terrorism.

“There are attempts to destabilize the situation in the country through the opposition fueled by the White House. The United States is doing this for one reason only: its protégé lost,” Volodin pointed out.

“Washington is playing by its own rules, which are meant to preserve its hegemony and expand its influence… Any result other than the victory of its candidate is unacceptable to them,” he added.

“Lies, provocations, double standards, the pursuit of goals by other people’s hands, and interference in the affairs of sovereign states are methods that are an inalienable part of the U.S. foreign policy,” Volotin recalled.

On Wednesday, Maduro submitted an appeal to the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice to audit and certify the results amid calls for greater transparency.

Moscow has urged the Venezuelan opposition to concede defeat. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has warned third countries against supporting attempts to destabilize the situation in Venezuela.
