The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, extended an offer of assistance to the Spanish government on Friday to deal with the devastating floods that have primarily affected the Valencia region, resulting in a tragic toll of more than 200 deaths in the European country.
During a televised event, Maduro expressed his solidarity and highlighted Venezuela’s capacity to provide assistance in emergency situations. “I offer the Government of Spain that Venezuela has a task force specialized in civil protection, with extensive experience in disasters around the world,” said the president.
Maduro described the images of destruction caused by the Isolated Depression at High Levels (DANA) as “distressing,” noting that this phenomenon has also resulted in fatalities in Castilla y León and Andalusia.
He emphasized that such events are a consequence of “global warming, which is ignored by the extreme right.” “Venezuela is ready to provide immediate support to Spain and Valencia, with our experience and trained personnel,” added the Chavista leader, who also expressed his desire to improve bilateral relations amid this crisis.
The floods, which have impacted eastern and southern Spain since last Tuesday, have prompted an intense search for missing persons. Authorities are mobilizing additional military resources to assist in rescue and humanitarian efforts.
The situation has escalated into the most severe natural disaster that Spain has faced in several decades, with ongoing efforts to deliver food and supplies to affected communities.
