President Petro Dennounce Former Vice President and Former General Prosecutor

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has denounced the country’s former vice president Germán Vargas Lleras and the former prosecutor general, Néstor Humberto Martínez, as accomplices of the coup that is being carried out against him.

“This strategy was explicitly proposed by Néstor Humberto Martínez (…) and Germán Vargas Lleras. We are facing a coup d’état based on false evidence”, the president stressed in his X account.

Petro has pointed out that the National Electoral Council of Colombia “does not have the competence to demand that he leave (his presidential functions)”, however, clarifies the president, it has been given way to formulate “unconstitutional positions”.

“This is a prevarication – a judge’s ruling of an arbitrary decision in an administrative or judicial matter knowing that such a decision is unjust and contrary to law – seeking a parliamentary coup,” he added.

President Colombia also indicated that he will not be charged for any crime, because he has not committed it. “Instead, I will be put on trial for indignity without any campaign cap being exceeded,” he said.

It is worth remembering that this Tuesday the full chamber of the National Electoral Council (CNE) formulated a group of charges that point to Petro for “allegedly having omitted some loans and entries in the accounts that must be presented by candidates at the end of the elections”, a position that puts his presidency at stake.

Before these lies, the dignitary assured that his act was totally honorable. “I am facing an administrative authority captured by the opposition that seeks at all costs to question my integrity,” he warned.

The president also described the accusation as illegal, referring to the time that the accounts were properly explained by the campaign team.

He also reiterated the call for widespread mobilization, while calling on the forces to refrain from raising a weapon against the people.
