The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, carried out the start of construction work on the expansion of the port of Manzanillo, which will involve a joint public and private investment of 63 billion pesos ($3 billion USD), to become one of the major infrastructure projects of the six-year period.

For the first stage, a public investment of 9 billion pesos was planned, which will be supplemented by another 1,631 million pesos from the Ministry of the Navy and 20,885 million pesos from private investment.

Meanwhile, for the second, public investment is estimated at 4,425 million pesos and 27,582 million pesos of private investment.

The federal government is investing in the construction of a new Mexican Petroleum (PEMEX) storage and distribution terminal and a maritime terminal. This project includes the preparation of areas for the port, construction dredging in its first phase, and the preparation of container and hydrocarbon terminals.

Private investment will complement development with the construction of specialized container terminals. The opening ceremony was led by Claudia Sheinbaum, along with senior government officials, as part of the anniversary of the Consolidation of Independence at the Sea in Manzanillo, Colima.

Sheinbaum, along with the Defense and Navy Secretaries and other members of his cabinet, presided at a ceremony in which the governor of Colima, Indira Vizcaíno, underlined the federal government’s support for the development of the port of Colima, the most important in Mexico, Underlining the importance of mitigating the negative impacts of their operation and ensuring that the investment benefits local people.
