Presidential Elections in Uruguay: Polling Stations Close

The polling stations, where more than 2.7 million citizens were called to vote, closed at 19:30, local time in Uruguay, as the first ballot box are open to start count.

According to preliminary results of the Electoral Court, more than 88 per cent of the Uruguayans entitled to vote exercised their right and in a few hours the Electoral Court will begin to show first results.
Meanwhile, the candidates from the different parties are reaching their respective commands where they will wait for the results.
This Sunday, Uruguay faces elections in which the citizenry will elect the president and members of parliament for the period 2025-2030.
If none of the eleven candidates exceeds 50% of the votes, a second round will be held on 24 November between the two best-voted candidates.
In addition, Uruguayans also voted two constitutional referendums, one about a social security reform and other to allow the police raids at night, something forbidden since the first constitution of the country in 1830.
In the morning, the president of the South American country, Luis Lacalle Pou, and former presidents José Mujica (2010-2015) and Julio María Sanguinetti (1985-1990) and (1995-2000) voted.
The candidates also voted for the opposition party, Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi; for the ruling Partido Nacional, Álvaro Delgado; for the Partido Independiente, Pablo Mieres; and for Cabildo Abierto, Guido Manini Ríos.
