The head of the Kremlin announced this while receiving Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the Russian capital. Wang began a three-day visit to the country on Monday.

“I would like to ask you to convey my greetings to the leader of the People’s Republic of China, my dear friend Xi. We are expecting him in Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War… We will celebrate the victory over Nazi Germany and militarist Japan,” Putin said, emphasizing that President Xi will be the main guest.

“I am convinced that the upcoming visit of the leader to Russia, as well as your visit to China, will give new momentum to the development of bilateral relations,” Wang told Putin.

Earlier, Wang met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who stressed that it is “Moscow and Beijing’s responsibility to maintain close coordination on the international stage.”

“The cooperation between China and Russia is not directed against third countries and is not subject to external interference. Our friendship is not situational but enduring,” Wang said, highlighting that preparations for President Xi’s visit to Russia are progressing successfully.

“Surely, most countries see this as the most important stabilizing factor in these difficult times of global political development,” Lavrov said at the beginning of the meeting.

Russia expects several leaders from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the post-Soviet space to attend the parade in Red Square, although Western leaders are unlikely to be among them.
